Scaling is done where there is build-up, not routinely across the whole mouth. A tooth that can be monitored is monitored. You'll be told when nothing needs doing at all.
The price comes before the work
After the examination and X-ray you get a figure, not a range. Nothing starts until you've heard it and agreed to it. No second bill appearing at the end.
